Somaliland Diaspora Football Team Draw with Chagos Island in a Charity

On Friday night, 31/10/2014 was Somaliland's second match, a friendly against Chagos Islands and in a delightful weather, accompanied by a great turnout and crowd (from both sides) at Haringey's Coles Park Somaliland won the toss and kicked off the match in what later became a high tempo frenetic game.

After 30 minutes of play the Chagos Islands took the lead, through a well guided front post header flowing in from the right wing. In what was left of the first half, the Somaliland players showed grit and resoluteness needed to bring in a reputable 1-0 score, which could easily have been more.

Given the score line, the Somaliland manager on the night lived up to his name and made a number of Tactical manoeuvres. A resurgent Somaliland came out for the second half, spurred on by their ever loyal fans. Chagos Islands team continued to utilise their impressive pace and one touch moves to create a number of goal scoring opportunities. Realising that time was no longer on their side, Somaliland decided it was now or never. Perhaps bringing on two fresh pair of legs could prove decisive? On came Ahmed Noor "Snoory" in place of Abdirahman "Chingy".

aHectic moments during the Charity match between SL Diaspora and Chagos Island teams at Haringeys Coles Park

A fantastic 35 yard ball over the top from the centre half* to the striker Khalid, which was knocked down to Sayid Abdi, who played it through to Ahmed Noor. To the delight of the crowd, he went on to nestle the ball into the top left corner of the net.

Although both teams went on to continue even more attacking football, the final whistle came to conclude in what was a drama filled evening of football.

On the night we managed to raise £215 through sales of tickets which will be debited into the account on 03/11/2014. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who come to support the boys on the night. We would also like to thank all those players who travelled as far as Cardiff and Bristol to represent their nation and play for a worthwhile cause.
