A Petition to recognise the Republic of Somaliland

Recognise Somaliland

Somaliland, a state in the northern Horn of Africa, is a remarkable success story. In a region marred by violence and insecurity, its people have forged an oasis of stability, democracy and progress since declaring independence from Somalia in 1991.But despite this record of achievement and the clear will of its citizens, the international community still refuses to recognise Somaliland as a sovereign country. This restricts our access to international funds needed to accelerate progress and denies us the fundamental right of self-determination. This is not just important for our people. Somaliland already contributes to regional and global security by fighting against piracy and terrorism. A Somaliland strengthened by formal recognition would help create an even more secure world. On May 18, our independence day, help us move forward by joining the call to get our nation the international recognition it deserves.
